I have never understood why mankind is so anxious to clutter the solar system with junk. There are better, less wasteful and more precise ways to gather data up close & personal.

Here's what will be done tomorrow night (Oct 9th):
NASA spacecraft to slam into the Moon in search of water

Is this a justification?
Lunar crashes won’t hurt the moon

A happy ending...
The Moon Rises, Again

Hey Stuff, Did not look at your link, can  barely type straight as I am pretty Dan well peeved at this one also. Helen only nose ( sorry, when angry mostly try to be funny). I am in no way a scientist, but it seems to me boring a hole at rocket speed into our moon to find evidence of water...at risk of an already fragile planet ,Earth, is well risky. Ms. Moon is a balance for our life here on planet Earth. I can only hope for a successful find. And a balance that works Earth over. ~ Robin

It seemed to be a waste of money (U.S.A. citizen tax money) crashing a probe when a soft landing fully automated rover could do the job better. Maybe the rover would also find a "dry hole," but it would be able to move to another site within the crater and repeat the tests. Many tests for the price of one rocket to the Moon seems to be more economical (and less messy) than one rocket, one test...

That is just my opinion.
