I have been wondering when the movie, sci-fi and fantasy buffs will mention Avatar... ?

Have you seen it? What do you think?

I was blown away by this magic world on a moon of a planet much like Jupiter in many ways (big spot and all) - and its messages about protecting our planet, human priorities and mentality and also about the power of cooperation.

Anyone interested in a bit that I wrote about it in my blog can find it here

Grinz,

We have been trying to see "Avatar." Since it opened, it has been showing to sold-out audiences. Advance ticket sales are sold-out in minutes. We will eventually be able to see it in a month or so. Failing that, there is always the CD/DVD market which should start shortly in order to capitalize on the current market enthusiasm.

I have not seen it yet, although I would certainly like to.  Most likely scenario for me is to wait until it comes out on DVD, rent it, and if it's one of those movies (like National Treasure) that I can watch over and over and over again, I just may purchase it.

I have not yet seen "Avatar", though my longing to do so increases with your blog about it, Lee! I did not know Peter Jackson was involoved with this one, though not at all surprised after his enormous undertaking with "The Lord of the Rings". The "Rings" series (as well as Tolkien's book series) remains my favorites of all times. The movie series I watch on DVD at least once a years, try to re-read the books every 5 years or so.

I would love to see "Avatar" in 3D, there is a theater over an hour away that does so at the Palisades Mall in NYS. I will need to plan this, from what Stuff said I will need to procure tickets prior. Corey, this one will be a Big Screen Must! Try to get to seet it! As will I, and good luck Stuff!

This weekend is a no for me, SAR (Search&Rescue training afield), perhaps next one...will let you know if I get tickets to The Show! Lee, again thanks for the info about this ground breaking movie.

Nononononono

Do NOT wait for it on DVD.  It will NOT have the same impact - however big your TV screen at home.

It is one of those movies you HAVE to see on the reallybig screen - 2D or 3D, it does not matter.  Really!

AFTERWARDS you could buy/rent the movie on DVD - I will do so mainly for the extras that will tell about the making of the movie.

Now go out and book those tickets and then come and report back

You are soooooo right, Lee. This movie (specially the 3D version) is best seen on a big screen in a theater with surround sound.

Locally, Avatar 3D is being shown at the IMAX and one other theater. Avatar 2D is being shown at several theaters around the Coachella Valley.

Elaine and I are waiting to see Avatar at the IMAX. A friend who took his daughter to see Avatar 3D told us to bring motion sickness pills.

Hi Robin - you don't even need the extra glitz & glamour of 3D or Imax.  Just GO and see it!   I'm still considering the 3D version - but mainly because I want to go and look at some of the details again and just escape into that world.  Will wait for a few weeks so I get the maximum "enjoying it all over again" effect, but those who have seen it in both 2D and 3D differ as to which one is preferable. Ironically, the most "votes" have gone to 2D since the 3D technology seems to be less "smooth" (especially in the "human" parts of the movie) and can become intrusive.  The concept and the basic, stunning new way of making a movie is perfectly evident in 2D.

My viewing of Avatar may be on hold, busy stuff but when I do get a chance to see it I totally agree with you Lee and appreciate your views. My most important view for seeing it is the message that I understand is prominent from reviews. Earth. Together. or Universe Together. Like theNewRadiant . Together. That is my prayer always.  ~ Robin

I went to see this last week (IMAX 3D)

I haven't sat through the same movie back-to-back at a theatre since I was 15 and saw Star Wars for the first time; I didn't think that a movie could thrill me as much now that I'm pushing 50 as Star Wars did when I was a kid, but it was sure close; great movie, and good story line.

I remember that we snuck up to the first row to watch it the second time back in what? 1977?.  The second time for Avatar I moved up to the third row (any closer and I couldn't get the whole screen within the 3D glasses).

If I see it again, and I probably will, I'm just going to see it at a regular theatre (no 3D glasses, though that was pretty neat).

The line from the movie that sticks with me, for some reason, is "I don't know who I am" -- I could relate to that at the level/context of the movie at that point...the older I get, the more I see things through different eyes (or maybe I'm just getting feeble and only think I'm having a new thought!)

Love those thoughts, Eric - which just goes to show the older YOU get, the better you get

I saw Avatar yesterday afternoon (Monday) in 3D. Avatar is now my very favorite movie ever tied with The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I would like to see it again, this time in IMAX 3D. I will try to express how I feel about this lovely movie. ~ Robin

This past weekend Elaine and I went to see AVATAR at the IMAX with a couple of friends. W O W !

AVATAR's computer generated 3D graphics and the integration with real time people was absolutely fantastic. About a third of the people had trouble due to the glasses, and watched the movie without them (I had to take my glasses off several times just to regain focus).

AVATAR, along with the STAR WARS and STAR TREK series, demonstrate the advance of technology used to make some (to me) very entertaining flix. Computer graphics and hardware have come a long way since plotting the Sin(x)/x surface.

AVATAR 3D on a big screen, with the IMAX total surround sound, enhanced the experience--I had not realized how much until seeing this movie. I would guess the 2D version wows audiences with its scope and grandure (I have not seen the 2D version). I would also guess that 3D, big screen, and total surround sound combine to make the experience more enjoyable and involving.

After all is said and done, each one of us will take away what is of interest to him/her self.

So glad you saw Avatar in IMAX, Stuff. (You know why I write in blue.) Though the theatre I viewed it in had some surround sound, I am sure IMAX would be a fuller experience.  I still would like to travel when I have time to get to an IMAX theatre. (Over an hour away.) I also look forward to viewing Avatar when it comes out on DVD/BlueRay. The reason is simply because this is a story that resonates deeply within me. YES, the special effects are so awesome beyond measure so far. But, this is a story with a message ~ a message that I hope many will understand. This is why I love this movie and story so very much.

I will refrain from discussing the movie further to give time for those who have not viewed it to do so. There is so much I could say...and will after a time. For those wishing to see Avatar, you will not be displeased in any way ~ in any shape ~ in any form!  ~ Robin

To All,

This morning's news said something about AVATAR being re-released into theatres around the holiday season. Apparently there were a few things wrong with the original, and these are to be corrected (I have absolutely no idea what needed correction--I thought the film was fine). Sometimes it is difficult to pay attention while driving...

I plan to see it again, hopefully at the IMAX.

Yeah, Buddy! I know not what you heard about something being "wrong", what I "heard" was that "Avatar" was being re-released with additional scenes. I saw it first time in theatre 3-D, second time (and a couple more  )at home video and I hope to be able to see "Avatar" in Imax soon!!!

I not only love the science of the making of the film video-wise...so awesome in it's own respect...but so love the message that goes and will forever go beyond the Wows of this movie that has my Heart.

For those that have not seen "Avatar", if the "bling" of special effects has turned you off...please do not let it. This is a story of heart. This is a story of learning. This is a story of hope... that taking over for profit over life will stop and never need happen again. Watch it. And Love. And listen. ~ Robin

I'm considering going to watch the new director's cut in 3D since I originally saw it in 2D.

About enough time has passed now since I first saw it to make it special all over again.

Ennoia,

Yes, 3D is impressive. If you get the chance, try to see the film in a theatre with wide screen format and surround sound (e.g. IMAX). I am unable to find a superlative which raises "impressive" to some power (more than 2, less than 10) and be second to actually being there...
