Thats right, it's that time of year again!  The GLOBE at Night 2010 Campaign begins March 3rd and ends March 16th.  It's easy to join, and all you need is your eyes (and a hopefully dark / clear sky).  Click the link below to go to the GLOBE at Night website.

You can also share your observations here with the rest of us at thenewRadiant if you wish.

Enjoy!

Thanks Corey!

This is one project where all of us can participate, no matter where we are.  It is one of those instances where amateurs help science and also scientific outreach. So I hope many of us will indeed get involved.

Besides, it's fun

Yes, have the website saved and will participate once again! This year, I also forwarded the website to "non-astronomer" folks also as Orion is so very easy to locate and easy to participate with the program. (Good for teachers, etc. if any of you know teachers or such.)  Could be a fun thing for any young group especially! ~ Robin

I submited my Globe At Night oberservations this Friday eve, March 5th for 7:30 PM EST. I managed a "3" after turning off my home lights and dealing with the others on my road. Way south, there were striations of clouds east to west. Orion was mainly clear protecting The Sisters. After so many days and nights of snow and clouds, I figured I better take advantage of some clear skies!  I had a plus this eve. Just East of Orion and a bit North of him, I saw a Shooter! Travelling eastward. It was "short", maybe a bit more than 10 spread fingers before it disappeared ... But it was so beautiful!

I will always get a thrill from these small, fleeting moments (to go back to another thread). Yes, this one was very small...as I go to settle into bed tonight ... it will be with the smile I have on my face now for being able to Look up and See!

And another reminder for my self to Keep Looking Up!!!

~ Robin

Yeah - still a few days to go.  Hope more of us will participate until the 16th

Hi All,

I've been absent for a while, but still doing astronomy when the skies are clear.

I posted my GAN on March 3rd at a 3, the same as Robin. This year, though, it was barely a 3....could've been a 2 YIKES!! \

There is major freeway reconstruction going on several kilometres SW of my place, and the high wattage lights they have on site for night work are playing havoc with my sky viewing. This will be ongoing for 3-4 years....coupled with pile driving in the Fraser River to widen the Port Mann Bridge. It's time to retire and move into the country far from city lights
